Holbein Paints
I have come to love the Holbein brand of watercolors and there are 2 reasons why.
1. Their colors are so vibrant and make some of the most beautiful greys I've ever mixed.
2. They don't have Ox-Gall, which I have found to be super great because they won't dry up
to form clumps of hard paint rocks in your palette. Holbein stays nice and rubbery & useable.
I can't tell you how many palettes I have with hard clumps of paint that now would take
loads of time to soften and make workable. Paints with Ox-gall were never intended to
be a paint that you store in your palette and use over and over again, it was intended to be used
up each time and new pigment squeeze out for each session. That never happens with most
beginners because they don't want to waste any of that expensive paint they put out,
even if it means they are not getting enough pigment for their wash, which is a
problem when trying to get real rich fresh looking washes.
The solution for artists that use there palette over and over never adding new paint...Use Holbein!
